
No two children are the same, their circumstances will be different and so there are several different types of foster care. Some situations mean that only a few hours or days of care are needed, some can be much more permanent over a number of years. Some can be in an emergency at short notice, others can be planned respite to give other families a break.
With experience you can choose to specialise in different areas but getting involved in a variety of different kinds of care has its benefits too. and will lead to you gaining more placements.
Types of Foster Care

This can also be known as “Temporary Fostering” and provides a safe place on a short term basis until a young person can move to a longer term family or return to their birth parents. Sometimes this could just be for a few weeks or days but in the event that a return is not possible this type of foster care often extends in to longer periods.
